The History of Prestons of Bolton

Prestons of Bolton is one of the oldest and most famous jewellery stores in the Country. Established by James Preston in Bolton in 1869 it relocated to its famous landmark building in 1913.

Throughout the 1970's and early 1980's Prestons of Bolton were one of the first independent jewellery retailers to advertise on national television and became one of the few true destination stores attracting customers from John O'Groats to Lands End. We have literally hundreds of visitors books signed over the years that pay testament to this fact.

Known as The Diamond Centre of the North, it was the largest independent retailer of diamond engagement rings in the country and Wedding Ring World their first floor showroom devoted to wedding rings, sold more than any other store with a record of 168 on one Saturday in the 1970's.

In February 2006 the store closed for a full and major refurbishment re-opening on the 19th November 2006.

A bespoke shopfit for a very special store

After a £900,000 refurbishment, and a great deal of hard work, this exceptional building has been carefully restored to its former glory.

Created by award winning designer Peter Dooley, the showroom will soon encompass a bespoke Rolex room, exclusively designed by experts at the world-famous watchmaker’s Geneva base, due to open July 2007.

On the ground floor, engagement rings, dress rings, fine jewellery and wristwatches. On the first floor, the finest collection of wedding rings and giftware by Georg Jensen, Lalique, Lladro and leather by The Bridge.

You can relax in the splendid Edwardian inspired atrium and enjoy coffee or champagne in the most beautiful jewellery store in the country.

We’d love to see you in the not too distant future.
